Recycled Segmented bowl with a story

Here's the story:
This charming bowl has a story. I found the wood in an old warehouse. It had been used as part of a shipping container from the Far East. The wood is a type of mahogany and old. It was partially finished and pieces had been glued together to form a 4x4 that was 8 feet long. In 3rd world countries nothing is wasted. It was obvious this wood had been used for other purposes before. Likely it came from discarded old furniture or scraps from a furniture factory or possibly a torn down home. Its a mystery really. I wish it could talk.
I cut the 4x4 into pieces and glued them together to make a block I could turn into a bowl. So, this is wood that was glued together to make a 4x4, then cut into pieces and glued together again. It was not easy but I was driven by its beauty. Of course I was dealing with end grain and horizontal grains as well as being a softer wood. The finish reflects this and is irregular and did not take the finish uniformly. I first soaked it in walnut oil. It took a month to dry because it soaked in deeply. Next I finished the bowl with a French polish of shellac, boiled linseed oil and alcohol. That produced a nice luster on most of the wood. Some old stain and water marks remained. I like that it reflects its truly old, industrial beginnings. After all, it has had a hard life and I wanted that to show. Finally I polished the bowl with carnauba wax and my own beeswax/walnut oil/lemon oil/microcrystalline wax finish. It buffed out nicely and is ready for a new life. Yes, I used food safe products. Just wash it with cold water and wipe it out. I ship a container of my rub to keep the finish alive when needed.
