DetailsGetting spalted maple is like finding truffles in the woods. It is rare and extremely beautiful. A fallen tree begins to "spalt" or actually rot when it is exposed to the forest floor. It is like aged blue cheese. This stunning 12 inch bowl is filled with color and figure. The wood had started to get soft in some areas, I used a product called PC Petrifier to harden it so I could turn it. There are indents and swirl's throughout this piece. I finished it with 8 layers of polyurethane to preserve the beauty and make it very useable and food safe. Its easy to care for. Just rinse in out and dry it with a towel. I polished it with my own food safe beeswax/microcrystalline wax/carnauba wax/lemon oil and walnut oil polishing rub. I include a sample for your use as you see fit. Just apply it sparingly and buff it off.
